Earlier this year we visited Ethiopia for the Africa Unite symposium held at the UN in Addis.
After the symposium we traveled to Shashemene and held film making and technology workshops with students and staff at the JRDC School. We produced with the students a collection of short films called ‘Our Ethiopia’.
The films were authored to DVD and shown to several of the schools we work with here in the UK. The response and reaction from the UK students has been overwhelming and we are now developing a project that will twin schools in Hull with schools in Ethiopia.
The aim of the project will be to generate a greater understanding of each others culture by using film making workshops and new media technology as an ongoing dialogue and communication platform between students.
The project will enable students to freely express their views on their lives, their futures and their dreams.
Ultimately, the project aims to raise young people’s awareness of global development issues and equip them with the skills and knowledge to become active global citizens.
