School – Pocklington Junior School
Brief – Engage keystage 2 in maths and produce a maths resource photography book
During Summer term 2010 pupils at Pocklington Junior School participated in an innovative numeracy project.
STAR, which was promoted and sponsored by East Riding of Yorkshire School Improvement Service enabled pupils to work with Jon Robson, a digital media practitioner, to look at alternative approaches in exploring shapes, numbers and patterns using the visual arts.
Pupils used digital photography and image manipulation software to capture and document 3d shapes, numbers & symmetrical objects. before adding descriptive texts to their images.
At the end of the project a photo book and photography exhibition was produced and exhibited in school. The photo book remains as a valuable numeracy resource for the school.
