Children in year 2/3 at Swinemoor Primary School have just completed their first story unit of the academic year.

They read and studied traditional tales such as Hansel and Gretel, Red Riding Hood and Snow White. They looked at the key features of these stories, and the use of language.

All the children in the class then rewrote various parts of the story of Hansel and Gretel, using story telling tecniques learnt within the unit. These were then merged together to create a final version of the story. The children then all took part in filming and recording this story, and discussed how the use of film and digital media could be used to enhance stories and share them with people all over the world.

“If you want your children to be intelligent, read them fairy tales. If you want them to be more intelligent, read them more fairy tales.”
