
Now accepting submissions for the 2009 Festival, taking place on Thu 2 April - Fri 10 April 2009.
We are looking for exciting and innovative films made both FOR and BY children and young people from across the UK and the world. The films can be shorts or features in any genre (fiction, documentary, animation) and in any format. With an established reputation as the most interactive young peoples’ Festival in the United Kingdom, we want films that will excite and motivate our audiences and that showcase the best and newest young filmmakers from around the globe.
NYFA (National Young Filmmakers’ Award) is for short films made BY children and young people (up to 19 years old) in the UK. Selected films will be entered into competition where a jury comprising of industry professionals will award £250 prizes in two age categories to the chosen films.
Deadline for NYFA entries is Friday 30th January 2009.
LYPFF - this category is for any films that are made specifically FOR children and young people. Entries can be any length, genre or format and submissions from anywhere in the world are welcomed.
Deadline for LYPFF entries is Monday 15th December 2008.

Mediabox, the Department for Children, Schools and Families fund which offers 13-19 year olds the opportunity to develop and produce media projects has announced its new funding rounds for 2008/09.To date, Mediabox has funded 234 projects, giving out almost £4.5 million in funding.
Almost 7000 young people in England have benefited from the scheme.Grants of up to £40,000 will be available to youth and/or media focused organisations. This year, Mediabox is actively seeking proposals that include radio, print, interactive, digital media, photography, graphic novels or mixed media advertising campaigns.

What’s the future of documentary? How can film makers and factual producers work with games developers, web and interaction designers to invent new formats for new media? What’s the reality of “360″, cross-platform development and commissioning?
Crossover Docs, which is supported by the BBC and Channel 4, is a unique five-day residential laboratory for experienced creative professionals from all sectors of the audio-visual industries. Held in a remote country retreat, the lab will explore new approaches to engaging audiences with factual stories and issues. It will generate innovative ideas for cross-platform projects which address big ideas and contemporary challenges including climate change and other scientific issues.
Crossover is directed by Frank Boyd and Heather Croall with leading mentors from the interactive and documentary industries. A number of commissioning editors, channel controllers and other buyers will visit during the week, to engage in the process and to hear the ideas that emerge from it. Commissioners attending in 2007 included the BBC, Channel 4, More 4, SBS, Al Jazeera and Current TV.
The lab is for people with previous credits in either interactive/new media or documentary/factual projects. We are looking for up to 24 participants from across the audio-visual and creative industries: producers, designers, developers, writers, animators.

The Cinemagic International Film Festival for Young People has launched its annual Young Filmmaker Competition for 2008. The judges are looking for imaginative and original short films made by young people to be showcased as part of the Festival which takes place in Belfast from 13th- 30th November. The Cinemagic Young Filmmaker Competition is free to enter and it is open to young people from across the UK and Ireland aged 4-25 years old.

2pm Thursday 19th June - Phoenix Centre, Dunford Road, Holmfirth
A series of short films, made by members of Holme Valley Sharing Memories Group, will put the spotlight on the lives of the older generation in Holmfirth.
The films will be premiered on Thursday 19th June at 2pm at the Phoenix Centre in Holmfirth as part of this year’s Holmfirth Arts Festival (7-27 June).
Members of the group, who are all in their 70s, 80s and 90s, have been working with artists Jenny Ellis, Jan Benham and Jon Robson to capture personal memories of the past 80 years. The films reveal fascinating stories, including an overland expedition to India by motorbike in the early sixties and how lives were changed after the second World War.

This last weekend 11th & 12th June saw a collection of very talented artists come together at the Kingston Youth Centre on Beverley Road . Hull.
The Graf / Hip Hop festival saw some outstanding murals designed and sprayed to the exterior walls of the youth centre, while dj’s such as Redlox and Fast T supplied the beats and backgrounds to a truly street weekend.
